Peru’s natural resources include copper, gold, silver, zinc, lead, iron ore, petroleum and natural gas. Between 2000-2005 minerals on average made up almost half of the country’s total exports. In 2008 this figure had risen up to 70% and mining activity contributed 6% of GDP. Peru is the world’s second largest producer of silver and sixth largest producer of copper and gold.
