Since August 2009, PWYP-Chad has been intensely involved with preparing Chad’s application to the EITI – which has been postponed several times previously due to ongoing political instability. The EITI International Secretariat’s Tim Bittiger visited Chad in November and met with all stakeholders.

PWYP members have also been working hard to increase understanding of EITI among public dignitaries and Chadian civil society at large. Amongst the activities they have coordinated in recent months are a debate-dinner organized in December 2009 with Chadian MPs, and an information day in March 2010 aimed at CSO representatives participating in the MSG.

A decree was signed in February 2010 establishing the EITI MSG which held its first meeting in early March 2010. Later that same month, the various MSG stakeholders gathered to elaborate the EITI work plan, one of the pre-requisites for sign-up to the EITI implementation process. The EITI Board approved Chad’s candidacy and the country must complete the process of Validation by April 2012.
