Cameroon’s predominant natural resources are petrol, bauxite, iron ore, timber and hydropower. From 2000- 2005 on average hydrocarbons contributed 28% of government fiscal revenueand made up 45% of total exports earnings. In 2009 Cameroon was producing 77 thousand barrels of oil a day. It ranks 55th in the world’s oil producing countries.

30 August – 2 September 2011 – PWYP Cameroon hosted a strategic workshop to evaluate civil society’s participation in the implementation of EITI in the country. The event sought to examine and resolve the issues behind Cameroon’s lack of compliant status. The agenda focussed on several themes including the sharing of best practices (drawn from the experiences of Liberia, Niger and the CAR) and the analysis of reports. Members identified the strengths and weaknesses of Cameroon’s EITI implementation as well as the actions necessary to achieve compliant status.
The coalition issued a declaration on the workshop (in French).
