Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is rich in minerals with large quantities of diamonds, gold, bauxite, rutile and iron ore. In 2007 the mining sector contributed around 30% of the country’s GDP and accounted for over 80% of export revenues. In 2009 US oil firm Anadarko Petroleum Corporation announced it had discovered oil in offshore Sierra Leone.
